OLYMPIA, Wash. – The Washington State Patrol (WSP) wants students to look toward future careers in policing. A youth camp will invite high schoolers to participate in law enforcement simulations.
The Kiwanis Youth Law Enforcement Camp is hosted annually in Shelton and accepts applications from across the state.
According to the camp website, attendees participate in drills which simulate actual emergency response situations.
“Our courses include defensive tactical training, driving courses, firearms judgment simulations, and more,” the camp’s website states.
Several police and sheriff’s departments send officers to attend the event with the intent of courting participants toward a policing career in Washington.
Simulations include bomb defusal and conducting drug arrests with canines.
WSP is currently accepting applications for upcoming summer programming.
