OLYMPIA, Wash. – Washington will launch the first ever state-wide LGBTQ+ survey June 1.

According to the Washington LGBTQ+ Commission, the survey will be conducted by a team of Washington State University (WSU) LGBTQ+ researchers.

“The LGBTQ Commission will use the findings to inform their policy recommendations to the Office of the Governor and the Washington State Legislature,” the commission said.

The commission was created during the 2019 state legislative session and makes recommendations to the executive branch on improving the government’s relationship with queer Washingtonians.

Survey responses will be anonymous and include information about identities, perspectives and experiences in the community.

WSU researchers conducting the survey will be at several Pride events throughout June, including Seattle, Spokane and Tri-Cities Pride. The team includes several masters and PhD students at the school who specialize in public policy.

It has been a busy 2024 for the state commission, which also created a Youth Advisory Council this year.
