SPOKANE, Wash. – Washington’s Secure Automated Firearms E-Check (SAFE) system, which is used to approve gun purchases by Washington State Patrol, is back in operation after it experienced an outage starting on Nov. 4.
According to WSP, background checks were slowed due to a system outage that impacted the Washington Court System
State Patrol has been able to access the system since 1 p.m. on Sunday, and is now processing through the backlog of firearm applications.
While Director of Communications Chris Loftis said there is no exact timeframe for when that deluge of applications will be completed, he commended state patrol staff for taking additional measures to process through SAFE checks efficiently.
