SPOKANE, Wash. – The westbound Freya exit will remain closed for another two weeks as construction has been extended to June 17.The city attributes the delay primarily to weather conditions. Rain significantly hinders the setting of concrete. This project involves work on four different intersections: Thor, Freya, 2nd, and 3rd.The new target date of June 17 is when the transition from the 2nd side to the 3rd side is expected. This will open the westbound I-90 Freya exit but will result in the closure of the eastbound on-ramp.The city designates the Freya exit as a heavy freight corridor due to the industrial nature of the area and the high volume of semi-truck traffic. To ensure the durability of the concrete, extra time is being taken.”Again, remember we’re doing that in concrete,” said Davis. “Concrete takes a lot longer; it’s a stronger material and it will last longer, so these kinds of concrete projects do take more time.”Keep in mind that when construction shifts to the south side of I-90, the city estimates it will take approximately the same amount of time as the work on the north side.
