Where to legally use fireworks in Spokane County and surrounding areas

SPOKANE, Wash. – The 4th of July is quickly approaching and as we begin to celebrate it’s crucial to know when and where you can set off fireworks.

Spokane County – Spokane

The Spokane Fire Department reminded Spokane residents of a 32-year-old ban on the sale and use of fireworks in the region.

Fire departments around the region will be on the lookout for offenders as fireworks are illegal in Spokane, Spokane Valley, Cheney, Millwood, Liberty Lake, and the unincorporated areas of Spokane County.

There will be patrols out during the week and people are encouraged to report violators to (509) 456-2233.

The City of Spokane will host the annual professional firework show at the Lilac Bowl around 10 p.m. and will be visible from all around downtown Spokane.

Medical Lake

Medical Lake has temporarily banned fireworks in the county for the rest of the year due to residents still recovering from the devastating Gray Fire. Medical Lake’s Mayor Terri Cooper put the ban in place but will not restrict the sale of fireworks.

Medical Lake will still host a professional firework show at the Waterfront Park around 10 p.m. on Thursday.

Steven’s County

The sale and use of fireworks in Steven’s County just outside of the Spokane area is legal for the season with some restrictions on what time’s you can use them. The Steven’s County Sherrif’s Office provided a full detailed list of what fireworks can be used and the time restrictions on them.

Throughout the week leading up to Fourth of July fireworks can be used from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. and on Thursday can be set off until midnight.

Kootenai County – Couer d’Alene

The City of Couer d’Alene reminded residents that fireworks are illegal on any public property at all times of the year. This includes parks, beaches, and any national forest.

It is also illegal to set off fireworks in all of Idaho that exceed 20ft high sparks and 15ft in diameter.

The City of Couer d’Alene will have a professional public firework show after a parade and more daily activities around 9:45 p.m. near the Couer d’Alene Resort.

Bonner County

Bonner County like other northern Idaho counties legally went on sale starting June 23 and will end July 5. Smaller fireworks that do not exceed 20ft high sparks and 15ft in diameter are legal in the county.

Aerial fireworks require a permit to be launched in the state and county.
