ATLANTA (AP) — Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp and other Republicans will push to limit lawsuits when the legislative session starts this month. Supporters say excessive lawsuits are raising insurance rates for business, property owners and medical facilities across the state. Opponents warn lawsuit limits would prevent injured Georgians from suing over wrongful conduct by property owners. For example, many lawsuits allege property owners don’t take adequate safety precautions in high-crime areas, which leads people to get hurt. Republican Gov. Brian Kemp tried unsuccessfully to get these efforts through the legislature last year. Trial lawyers are among the opponents Georgia’s legislature could stall these efforts again.
