WILSON CREEK, Wash. — A 500-acre wildfire is currently burning near Wilson Creek, with crews actively battling the blaze.
Update July 18 7:30 p.m. – Officials reported that the fire began on Thursday, July 18, around 3 p.m. According to Grant County Sheriff’s Office the fire was initially 180 acres.
It is estimated to cover 500 acres and is burning in sagebrush. Fire officials have stated that the blaze is threatening crops, power lines and homes. There are currently no evacuations in effect, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
State fire assistance has been mobilized under the Washington State Fire Services Resource Mobilization Plan to support local firefighters working to contain the Road R Fire, located in Grant County near the town of Wilson Creek.
Update July 18 7:30 pm – Deputies said the fire is under control. Hand crews will be starting the mop up to put out hot spots. A small group of state resources has been requested to relieve the local crews. Some of the local crews have already been released.
Several agencies, including a firefighting helicopter and two airplanes, are on scene, according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies have confirmed that the town of Wilson Creek is not in immediate danger, and there are currently no evacuations in place.
Deputies said the aircraft are utilizing water from Billy Clapp Lake. Boaters are advised to reach shore to allow the aircraft to operate safely.
Road R northeast in Wilson Creek and Road 31-Northeast are closed until further notice.
