NORTHWEST – As snow blankets the region, many residents are curious about the impact of the anticipated La Niña winter.
Currently, the area is in an ENSO-neutral phase, but a transition to La Niña is expected soon. There’s over a 50% chance of this change occurring in the coming month.
This La Niña is predicted to be weak and short-lived. By next spring, conditions are expected to return to the ENSO-neutral category. Despite its expected weakness, La Niña is anticipated to bring above-average precipitation and below-average temperatures.
This weather pattern is promising for the snowpack, which has already seen positive developments. However, driving conditions may become a concern as the winter progresses.
