With Cathy McMorris Rodgers out, who is the run for the 5th Congressional District

SPOKANE, Wash. – With Washington Congresswoman Cathy McMorris stepping down there is a race for the 5th Congressional District.

Kevin Parker, a former state lawmaker and local business owner, posted on his Instagram that he will not seek the seat.

Brian Dansel, a Commissioner in Ferry County, said that he will be running for the seat. Dansel had previously served in the Trump Administration in the Department of Agriculture and was a state senator in Washington state.

Another candidate, John Gardner announced on his website that he will be running as well. He previously ran against Tiffany Smiley for the senate position in 2022.

Spokane County Treasurer Michael Bomgardner told the Spokesman-Review that he is considering entering the race.

In the same article, former Spokane Mayor Nadine Woodward said that she is “weighing her options.”

Other candidates like state representative Marcus Ricceli stated that he’s focused on serving the people of the third district in Olympia and state senator Andy Billig has not stated his intentions to run.
