COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – Wolf Lodge Steakhouse burned down on Monday afternoon. It was a beloved restaurant that had served the Kootenai County community since 1939.

The steakhouse began as a convenience store in 1939, selling items to locals and people traveling from Montana to Washington through the Idaho panhandle.

Wolf Lodge became a steakhouse in the early 1982, and quickly became one of the most celebrated restaurants in north Idaho. Located just off I-90, it has been owned and operated by Tom Engel since he purchased the property from his aunt and uncle in 1993.

As of Monday afternoon, none of the building was left standing as fire crews focused on containing the flames to the restaurant to prevent a wildfire in the surrounding woods.
