SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — A 48-year-old woman was arrested in Spokane Valley after allegedly discarding a bag containing suspected meth and claiming the pants she was wearing didn’t belong to her.
According to Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, the incident unfolded on Sunday when law enforcement responded to a report of trespassing on private property at East Mansfield Avenue and North Robie Street.
Deputies said that at around 9 a.m., a Spokane Valley Deputy noticed a car parked on the property. The owner had previously asked deputies to remove anyone found there. As the deputy approached, he saw Martha White, who was digging around the passenger side of the vehicle. White told the deputy she was from out of town and had arrived with a man she identified as her fiancée.
Deputies said that during the interaction, a deputy observed a glass pipe, commonly used to smoke drugs, in the passenger door. When White was told she was being detained for further investigation, she began to walk toward the patrol car. As she did, the Deputy saw her toss a small plastic bag onto the ground.
When asked about the bag, White denied knowing anything about it, even claiming the pants she was wearing didn’t belong to her, according to deputies. After retrieving the bag, authorities identified it as containing a white crystalline substance believed to be meth. White initially denied using meth recently but later admitted to using it a few days earlier.
White was arrested and taken to the Spokane County Jail, where she became uncooperative and had to be physically removed from the patrol car by detention staff according to deputies.
Her bond was set at $1,000. The man who was with her was released without charges. He told authorities he had known White for only a few days and wasn’t aware they were on private property.
