LEWISTON, Idaho – A woman who was accused of smothering her father to death at a Lewiston Veterans home last year changed her plea to guilty on Thursday.
Sandra McCarty, 55, originally pleaded not guilty to the charge back in May 2023, but decided to change her plea in exchange for a shorter sentence, according to the Nez Perce County Prosecutor’s Office.
McCarty was originally arrested back in February 2023 after nursing staff at the home reportedly walked in on her straddling her father with her hands covering his mouth, according to court documents.
Her father and former veteran, Bob Whitlock, died two weeks later. He was 81.
McCarty’s sentencing is set for July 11.
