SPOKANE, Wash. – A Spokane Amazon facility worker died on the job Monday.

According to the company, two employees were working on the robotics floor when one of them collapsed. The other worker called for medical assistance and tried to help until emergency medical services arrived, but the employee ultimately died at the facility.

Amazon spokesperson Sam Stephenson said that the facility mourned the worker Monday.

“We’re grieving the loss of a colleague today, and our thoughts and prayers are with our team at the site and our employee’s family and friends. Counseling services and other support are available to all employees as we work through what appears to be a non-work-related incident,” Stephenson said.

Amazon said that the day shift at the facility was canceled and that employees were sent home with pay, while the family of the dead worker was contacted.

Incidents of workers dying in Amazon facilities took place in Fort Wayne in 2023,Colorado Springs in 2022 and Edwardsville in 2021 amidst complaints from labor leaders that the company takes inadequate measures to protect employees.

According to Amazon, the family of the worker has been offered counseling resources and is contact with the company benefits team, though the exact nature of that assistance is unclear.
