CHAS Health is a community health center with 20 locations in Spokane County and the Lewis-Clark Valley including medical, dental, pharmacy, urgent care, and behavioral health services. With a goal to remove barriers and expand access to high-quality care for the community, Chas Health serves everyone, regardless of their ability to pay. No patient is ever turned away due to an inability to pay for services.
For these reasons, there was a natural partnership between CHAS Health and the Resource Center of Spokane County (RCSC). CHAS Health recognized the value of the integrated services model of RCSC which provides access to social services for CHAS patients and the community.
The scope of CHAS as a partner agency has expanded over the years but the focus has remained the same, grounded in supporting the health and wellness needs of some of the most vulnerable members of our community. CHAS Health Community Health Workers are at RCSC daily, supporting customers by providing healthcare system navigation, insurance enrollment, and collaboration with the other local service providers. Many of CHAS staff working on-site are bilingual in Marshallese, Russian, Pashto, and Daari, which helps reduce language barriers for many of the clients at the RCSC.
Over the years, RCSC has become a hub and safe place for many CHAS Health patients. In addition to the services CHAS Community Health Workers provide, they have been able to host several group classes for patients, such as our Diabetes Management Program for the Marshallese community, and Pathways to Wellness, a program run in partnership with the YMCA.
As a community health center, CHAS Health is always looking at the needs of the community and how they can adapt to meet those needs in a more comprehensive way, which is why in 2021, CHAS launched CHAS Health Mobile Clinic. In 2023, they are excited to continue expanding the scope of services provided at RCSC to include regular support from the Mobile Clinic medical staff. This is an effort to further reduce clients’ barriers to healthcare services. The CHAS Health Mobile Clinic has a private exam space, a blood draw area, and is wheelchair accessible, allowing CHAS Health to continue to assist the community by providing a variety of services.
