Individuals with disabilities bring diverse life experiences and perspectives to the workplace. This diversity can lead to creative problem-solving and innovative approaches within an industry. However, individuals with disabilities are still a very under-employed and under-represented group within our workforce.
Kevin Williams of the Spokane Workforce Council stated “It is important to note that in order to fully realize the benefits individuals with disabilities can add to a work center, employers should ensure that their workplace is accessible, inclusive, and supportive of individuals with disabilities”.
October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month, and in conjunction with this the Spokane Workforce Council, Spokane County, and WorkSource Spokane are hosting their annual Access Job Fair on Oct 19, 2023 from 10:00am to 1:00pm at the Centennial Hotel in Spokane.
This event is open to everyone. Over 75 employers and resource providers will be in attendance to discuss career opportunities and to showcase new resource advancements. Lori Veitenheimer, WorkSource Spokane One-Stop Operator says” This event is all about connectivity for individuals with disabilities, employers, and resources. Individuals with disabilities offer so much potential to the workforce and this event highlights this”.
