PULLMAN, Wash. – The Washington State University Police Department responded to rumors of a serial rapist on campus on Saturday, saying that police have not substantiated the claims but that the issue is under active investigation.

According to the department, the campus concerns stem from a reported rape near Beasley Coliseum, which is also only a rumor as of Saturday morning.

“The rumors of a rape occurring near Beasley Coliseum last week, and of a serial rapist in the area, have not been substantiated by WSU PD. If you have information about these or similar crimes, please contact WSU PD at (509) 335-8548,” the department said via social media.

There were two sex offenses recorded by WSU police in October 2023, and one recorded in October 2022. According to a 2010 Center for Public Integrity report, 95% of rapes on campus go unreported.
