YAKIMA, Wash. – A man was arrested for refusing to yield to Washington State Police (WSP) troopers who attempted to stop him for driving the wrong way on I-82, north of Yakima early Sunday morning.

WSP troopers had tried to initially stop the driver with a PIT maneuver, but were unsuccessful until Deputy Jose Serrano successfully deployed spike strips to deflate the driver’s tires, according to the Kittitas County Sheriff.

The crippled car continued driving after running over the spikes but came to a stop when a second PIT maneuver was successfully completed by the WSP troopers.

The man was identified to be 19 years old and was arrested and booked into the Yakima County Jail for a DUI and felony eluding.

During the chase, deputies closed eastbound I-82 at Thrall Road and stopped vehicles headed toward the oncoming danger.

No one was injured during the incident, according to the Kittitas County Sheriff.
