Young teen killed in Spokane shooting identified

SPOKANE, Wash. — The teen early Saturday morning was identified by the Spokane County Medical Examiner on Monday.

The medical examiner said 13-year-old Gavin Looper died at the hospital due to a gunshot wound he sustained on Heroy Avenue in Hillyard. Neighbors said they heard at least five or six gunshots at the time the incident reportedly took place.

As of Monday afternoon, no arrest had been made in the case and police continued to investigate.

Spokane Public Schools confirmed over the weekend that Looper was a student at on Spokane’s South Hill. The district said support counselors would be available at the school starting Monday.

A memorial was held for Looper .
